A side benefit of not drinking
A side benefit of not drinking
So it's been almost two weeks now and I'm feeling good. On vacation with the wife. I've probably saved $500 in booze expenses on this trip. Not only at dinner but all the other drinking I would have done.
It's amazing how cheap dinner out in a good restaurant is when there is no booze involved. It's almost like eating free! So now that our food tab is so much lower, I've been tipping 20% instead of the usual 15. No reason why the server has to suffer. Everyone benefits from the new me. How nice!

That has got to be a great feeling. I am taking my wife and myself to NYC for my 40th Birthday in two weeks. I plan on a sober trip to celebrate my birthday!!! I will keep this post in the back of my mind. Way to go, enjoy a vacation in the real world.
I went out for "drinks" with an friend who was visiting from out-of-town. (He didn't know yet that I no longer drink) We were at an upscale bar/restaurant where the typical cocktail costs about $9. I spent two hours sipping soda water and lime and having a great time. When it was time to leave, I automatically reached for my wallet. The server said that the charge for my drinks was zero. Nothing. Nada. I tipped anyway on my non-existent bar tab and was still about $80 ahead of where I would have been in my drinking days. YEE-Haw!
