How to know if you need medical supervision?
I just threw out my booze. Now, how will I know if I need to have a doctor supervise me or if I can do it on my own?
I have been drinking everyday for many years. The amount varies, but I always have something.

Some people have a physical withdrawal which is uncomfortable, some have one which is dangerous, and some have none at all - more of an emotional and psychological discomfort.
Even if you intend keeping your recovery private, it is a good idea to tell at least one trusted person in your life, so that they can be your safety contact. Someone who can be contacting you and checking up on you for the first few days. Some folks take a few days off work to give themselves space for potential physical discomfort, and others prefer the distraction of work during the day (although be ready to go home "sick" at any moment).
We can't give medical advice on the site - only you can judge if you're feeling just icky or if withdrawal is really scary dangerous for you. Lots of folks just quit on their own. I've seen the range of comments on this site - from folks who did it alone but wish they'd worked with a doctor, to people who only felt shaky and had difficulty sleeping or holding down food. My understanding is that the real potential danger is seizure. There is a lot on this board regarding people's physical experience of detox.

I'm not trying to frighten you unnecessarily; however I highly recommend seeking advice/help from a doctor if you're unsure of what might happen. There are a few drugs where withdrawal can result in seizures, other medical complications and occasionally even death. Alcohol happens to be one of those drugs.
I would also like to congratulate you on your commitment to sobriety! Well done!!!
