I need advice about seeing my doctor
I have an appointment on Monday and I'm really nervous. I never go to the doctors and this will be someone I've never seen before. I need antidepressants and I figure I should tell him about my drinking but I'm not really sure where to start. I'm kind of a shy person and a tad awkward too... I dunno what to say but I'm scared that if he doesn't think I need antidepressants thst I'm going to have to keep feeling tis way... any advice??
Maybe write everything down beforehand and bring it with you, that way you'll not forget anything if panic sets in!!
The reality though is a Dr will have heard it all before, be honest so you can get the treatment you need!!

Not all doctors are comfortable, sufficiently educated or adept at prescribing antidepressants or other psychotropic medications. If the doctor is a psychiatrist, then at least he has the training to go through your options with you.
As we know alcohol, poisons, drugs,
control substances all cause some sort
of chemical imbalance in our bodies and
affects our minds and bodies. Each one
of us is made up differently on the insides
so what works for one may not work for
another.
That is why we should be as honest as
possible with our physicians about our
chemical dependencies, whether it be
alcohol, drugs, prescription meds.
As we all know too, drugs and alcohol
mixed together can be pretty deadly,
well not pretty, but you understand. Right?
There are recovery programs to help us
learn how to stay sober or not drink or
use a day at a time. Then there are our
physicians that can help us with other
health problems we may have.
Use each honestly for a healthy, happy,
sober life for yrs to come.

I agree you should write everything down; you might get nervous and forget some of what you wanted to say.
About a month before my annual physical I start jotting down anything I want to mention to my doctor, and I bring the notebook with me. It might be what she thinks of a certain vitamin or diet or supplement. Or it might be about the cracked skin on my heals or if I am old enough for a pneumonia shot - whatever. It makes it much easier.
Be honest; as others have said, they have heard it all and their job is to help you.
