Foot Surgery Soon - Scared of Pain Meds

I've been off pain meds (oxys) for 2 1/2 years.

I'm having foot surgery done in a week. I talked to the doctor about being on the oxys for 2 years and being clean from them for 2 1/2. I said I was scared of taking pain meds again, and he suggested a medication the name of which I can't remember right now. It's an expensive medicine that wouldn't likely be covered by my insurance, but has lower abuse potential.

I'm not asking for any medical advice here, but I'm hoping that you can maybe share what's worked for you pain management-wise that didn't threaten your recovery?

Thanks so much if you can share. I'm freaking out a little here. Developed a nervous twitch in my eye from being scared of this!

(Posted this in the wrong area a few minutes ago - hope this is the right one. I still consider myself new to recovery).

I'm sure your doctor will do what right to protect your sobriety.

I had a wrist operation, pretty major. My doc gave my Tylenol3. I took as prescribed and did not have a hard time stopping. I actually stopped as soon as I could endure the discomfort.

Good luck with the foot surgery!
