So, people I work with don't know I'm a recovering alcoholic, but they do know I've called in hungover before. Occasionally they were the guys I was drinking with.

So now I'm pretty ill. I don't have to go to hospital or anything, but I have a pretty nasty viral infection that has left me unable to work.

Keep in mind, I'm the kind of guy who goes to work even if I am sick, so believe me when I say I am sick to the point of being physically incapable of working. Unless they stuck a nappy on me and give me a bucket, I'm a health risk.

I'm calling in sick tomorrow, my fear is they will think I'm lying, pretty much, that I drank too much and I'm to blame.

I'm scared of what people think, this is important to me. I love my job, or it least what I hope will become my full time job. And I'm not an unreliable guy.

I wish I wasn't ill so badly.

I'd just be confident in the facts Tom, you haven't been drinking, you're not hungover and I'm sure a Dr could back you up that your actually ill.

Illness happens and many people phone in ill for many different reasons, it wouldn't be reasonable for any work colleagues to immediately jump to the conclusion of alcohol every time someone did!!

Tom, you're doing what you should be doing - staying home when you're sick and keeping the virus out of the workplace. You're on firm ground and doing great.
