Day 1 (#1'000'029) Nearly done.

So far so good today. The fridge and cupboards are now full of food after going shopping this morning - I went to all the local shops instead of the supermarket for the first time since moving here, which was something new. Fresh fruit, veg, meat etc. on the menu for the week. I only managed a couple of hours sleep, but other than being tired I feel alright. Day 1 is pretty easy though when the previous day's disasters are still fresh in your mind and perseverance is high. I was meant to be going away for the weekend which I managed to screw up, so I need to find a replacement activity to keep me occupied.

I have a feeling I'm going to be asked to attend a birthday party on Saturday, which I really don't want to go to as everybody will be drinking.

If sobriety is your goal, and your number one priority, I hope you are prepared to decline the invite.

If you wish to stay sober the party will be the first of many things that you will need to change.

I needed to reinvent myself which included people places and things

Yes, if sobriety is your goal, find something else to do instead of the party and gracefully decline. Probably the first "no" of many.

way to go!

now, skip the party. It's not crucial to your life's journey.

sobriety is.

there will be plenty other parties, later. either parties without booze as the epicenter or parties once you've gotten firmly-established in your sobriety and are well-able to be in such settings without it threatening your sobriety.

make an alternate plan today - so you can decline the party politely by simply saying "I'm so sorry! I have another commitment".

Good to see you back trying again, James. One of these attempts will stick, my friend

You can do this James, but it's going to mean a few decisions on what activities to get involved in and what people to hang out with, you need to work up a few Sober muscles and grind out some Sober time!!

I'd really consider turning down the party invite-go to a meeting instead. I'm day 5 today and I wouldn't go to a party for fear it's too early!

You can do this!

Thanks everybody. I won't be going to the party. It's actually a kids party, but the adults will no doubt be drinking nonetheless. I'm steering well clear.

It's the only one with a remotely positive outcome, I can't even begin to think about being in that kind of environment at the moment.

Yeah, we can. Day 1 is the first step but a big step. One step at a time is how you conquer mountains! Without the first one though, you'll get nowhere!

To be honest I've slept through the morning, so it's hard to tell yet . It's the first solid night's sleep I've had in a week. I feel a bit low, but not too bad thanks.

I need to look for a job, which is a horrible task and I'm not looking forward to it. My last contract ended and I'm out of work, so need to find things to keep busy.

It's a great feeling when you sleep through! I only had disturbed sleep when I drank.

You'll find some work-I work in sheffield funnily enough.

I'm really pleased you're feeling ok-stay positive xx
