Day 1
Day 1
Hello SR friends,
I'm back. Tail curled up between my legs, feeling a little ashamed that I blew two fantastic months of sobriety a while back, but if anything it has shown me that I really want to live a happier and sober life.
I wish I could say I knew exactly what my triggers are when it comes to alcohol, but I haven't figured it all out yet. At this point I'll say I'm a "high functioning" (is there really such a thing) ??binge drinker who is tired of the roller coaster ride it brings.
I've had my life turned right upside down over the last couple of years, not entirely because of alcohol but the booze sure hasn't helped me cope in a positive way. I'm at the Junction....where I need to realize that life isn't always what you think it's going to be (or anywhere close to what you want) and I need to seek ways to make the best of it.
It feels good to be back. Here's to day 1.

True, life doesn't always turn out exactly like we want. But it's also true that it's never too late to get started toward your real goals and dreams. The first steps may be tiny, but they get bigger. Sometimes we do need to "make the best of it", but only while we are working to be were we REALLY want to be. Good Luck.
Welcome back, I'm glad you made it. Some don't.
I had a trigger-breathing. I needed no excuse to drink.
I was a low functioning alcoholic, because I was always drunk. I rode that rollercoaster for twenty years. Save yourself some misery and quit now.
Congratulations on day one. Let's make it the last. You never have to drink again.
Best to you.

welcome back GentleSoul
Honestly, for me, anything was a trigger...ultimately I had to take drinking off the table completely and commit to believing there was no reason good enough for me to drink again. Ever.
Build up a support network, and use it...use it before you drink again GS

Hi Gentle!!!
It's funny you mentioned about things setting you off - I caught one last night... I was mad (and rightly so) about someone's behavior. I immediately flashed to the thought of a beer and how that would calm me and turn off the irritation.
Truth is it does and it doesn't. I become more negative when I drink.
You realize all this, but catching the triggers is a really smart idea, because you can call them out and put a stop to them. After a few years of sobriety, I didn't have any triggers.
Have a great day
Beth
