My 30 days of sobriety is kicking my 16 years of drinking in the face

Hello all. *It is my day 30 and I actually feel crisp and aware and confident. *Earlier in the year I had about 80 days. *Then I relapsed and went crazy. *It culminated with me passing out on the sidewalk in Brooklyn with a bottle of bleach and a bottle of ammonia I was going to injest. *I miraculously made it to my therapist the next day and she pulled some wellness jujitsu on me and the next thing I knew I was in a car headed to rehab. *I got out of rehab and immediately started drinking again. *I felt so ashamed and humiliated that I started again. *A few days later I stopped drinking again and it is now thirty days without drinking cheap pints of Vodka named after fictitious Russians like: Georgie and Alexi and Wolfcastle. *

I have been a daily drinker for 16 years and it had changed me in ways I never expected. *It made me inert and slow and lifeless. *I feel great*today. The best I have. *Better than during my 80 day stint. *I am not over confident. *I know my addiction is right around the corner, salivating and waiting for me, waiting to pounce. *But I can do this damnit. *I can do this

Hiya estragon, welcome to SR.

Good on you for not picking up!

A wealth of information and experience here for you. Just take it a step at a time. Try not to rush it, but yes it feels so much better not to wake up hungover, foggy headed, bloated, ruddy faced.

I never try to forget the feelings that drink made me feel .

There are up's and down on the sober path but that's life and i'm far better able to deal with it all sober than drunk or hungover .

Keep on , in my opinion a sober life is worthwhile ,

Mate well done!! You hit a low & are back in control.

I feel like sending you a massive *CYBER HUG* after reading that.

You have to always remember that low point in Brooklyn with the Ammonia & Bleach & never go to that point again.

Be strong & re-claim your life.

Best wishes from London.

I'd say you've come a very long way from drinking bleach and ammonia..... Imagine the horrible death and wasted life....

It's terrifying isn't it? What alcohol can do to us?

Congratulations and welcome! You can do this!!!

Life is good and we're here for ya. Keep it up.
