Long Days

Having trouble with filling my days it seems. My depression has come back with a vengeance and as much as I want to get up and out... I either don't know what to do with myself... or when I decide on something I don't have it in me to do it. Its getting rather frustrating. I don't know if it has to do with being newly sober or a possible misdiagnosis in my mental health that was mentioned to me when I was in the hospital during my last relapse.

Feeling kind of lost. Unsure of what to do with myself that is positive and will keep me moving in the right direction. Ive been getting out of the house alone everyday this week so far which is something ive never done before.. so theres something I guess.

Talking to my sponsor a lot and trying to figure out a meeting for tonight and hoping shes got time to grab a coffee and just chat a bit before or after.

Lonliness has always been a trigger for me... and now that my partner is back to work... theres a lot of it. I kept to myself so much when I was using and pushed away a lot of people. I was virtually dependant on my boyfriend for everything and coming into my own now while trying to maintain my sobriety... its been difficult.

Set some goals for myself today... and just praying it will be better then yesterday.

Can you get some exercise today? It completely changes my mood for the day if I get in at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day.

I prefer a strenuous uphill nature walk, but there are so many things that are enjoyable depending on your interests. Dog-walking? Running? Stair climb all the steps you can find? Dance - I have Zumba DVDs and love them. You can find exercise video on YouTube, or rent them from your local library. Just get out - exercise is a huge mood enhancer.

It's still early days, don't be so hard on yourself, I didn't feel like doing much in the first month, I didn't have the energy for starters, but then after a while I got the spring back in my step!!

The body can't wipe away years of drinking overnight, it's gonna take time, and as it does it's thing, emotions, feelings and thoughts will be up and down as it adjusts to life without alcohol.

Hang in there, Rome wasn't built in a day, Sobreity itself is an achievement each day!!

Yes, setting small, attainable goals is the way to go. Plan and then 'do' one or two things on your list, and I believe that simply going out for a walk is one of the best things you can do to lift your spirits.

If you believe that your depression existed before you began drinking, it could be that your dr might help with medication, but your depression may clear up on its own.

Have you thought of volunteering in your community xJustBreathx?

It was a great way for me to get out of the house, feel useful and fill out some of my free time
