Today is day 1

I've never asked for help with my alcoholism but I found this forum. I've been reading other peoples stories and I want my life back.
Today is day one.

Thanks! Just have to get through these withdrawals. The shakes are what kept me drinking but I think the hot and cold sweats are even worse.
Being a successful professional made me feel like I clearly had it together but actually being completely sober for the first time in i don't know how long and really feeling how bad my withdrawal symptoms is showing me how wrong I was.

Don't hesitate to see a Dr if you feel you need to...detox isn't pretty, even dangerous, for some of us.

Exactly what happened to me Ace, didn't have a clue how big my problem was until I decided to quit. Wish I had known about SR when I decided to live instead of drink my self into an early grave.

Whatever withdrawal symptoms you may experience someone here has been through it, and can help you through. Post a lot over the next few days, ask questions, just say hi, let us know how you are doing.

Be strong, you can do this.

welcome welcome welcome.... I can never do the withdrawals without medication, even then they are awful. Take care of yourself..... and know you are not doing this alone

Today is taking so long to get through.
The shaking is bad but already feels a little better. I'm sweating a ton and am just trying to keep up with glasses of water. I know I need to eat something but can't bring myself to do it yet.
I really wish I could sleep through this part but of course the anxiety and insomnia are part of it...
Only bright spot is that when I feel like this I have zero desire to drink. For me, that doesn't come until the 1-2 week mark after my body forgets the hangover and brain tries to rationalize my compulsion.

I can't tell you all how much I appreciate you right now. I've kept my problem hidden from everyone in my life.
It's making this process easier to handle knowing I'm not alone in it.

You are Spot On with that post. But it doesn't stop after a couple of weeks, the AV in me still tries my resolve. But knowing that is all that it is, is a powerful weapon in your arsenal.
