what to do with free time?
This morning I had a break between 9 am and 1 pm and it feels like everything was stressing me out. I have been anxious and looking for something to do because having nothing to fill that time made me want to go see my friends that drink and it made me think about going to that party that I posted about this weekend, so instead of letting all this affect my recovery, I called my sober friend and talked to her and now I'm just trying to stay busy. What's the best thing to do to stay busy without going and spending a ton of money? I hate how this feels. But it only makes me more determined to get past this and stay sober.
For me I will post here (probably too much) and read program literature. These things help get me through the day in between meetings.
Peace man - stay sober, you've made a great decision!
Still planning on meetings later in the week??

Exercise. Walk around a local park or your neighborhood, take a bike ride, run, climb all the stairs in your school/office building, calisthenics or dance. Exercise releases endorphins. I couldn't have stayed sober without exercise.
When I'm stressed, going for a walk in the fresh air is great, I'll put my ipod in and head out around the block, or to the park etc!!
The worst thing is sitting indoors with your thoughts, early on I couldn't concentrate enough for reading, so planning TV shows, movies or even playing online puzzles/games filled a lot of my time!!
Hang in there!!

What helps me when I get myself wound up/ feel like drinking is to put my headphones in and absolutely blast some music into my ears! I'm a big rock music fan and I find it can really help me 'blow the cobwebs' off and clear my mind.
Other than that walking is good if you can find a nice relaxing place nearby. The worst thing you can do is sit and mull things over - from personal experience that never ends well. I'm finding that I need to keep myself busy all the time, even if it's just reading the paper, doing something helps occupy my mind when I'm not working.

Congrats on calling your sober friend and poweriing through this. Well, done!
What kind of things do you enjoy doing? If you like reading, you could spend some ttime at the library, find a good book. Window shopping is free. And exercise is always a good idea. It releases stress.

I would try to do something that is productive, in that it improves your life in some way.
Physical training (running is a good one - very cheap, very effective)
Cleaning your house (the psychological effect of a dirty house v. clean house is kind of amazing, a clean area just feels better whereas a cluttered dirty mess feels crap)
Cleaning my house (this probably would not help you but it would sure help me out!)
