Smart recovery?
Just wondered if anyone can tell me the differences, if any between Smart and AA? I found a meeting very close to home and am considering going. Guess one way to find out would be to show up! Would like a heads up though.
Yes, I've been. There is a difference in that SMART is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques and a plan of action. They don't make references to powerlessness/ giving yourself up to a higher power.
For some, giving yourself to a higher power (doesn't have to be the Christian God) works for them. For some, it doesn't.
I attended a few meetings (at two locations), but I stopped because they were PACKED with people. There were people that wanted to be there, and people who were court ordered to be there (just like AA I suppose). Every meeting is different though. You should give it a try - it couldn't hurt. Honestly, I might go back if I could find a smaller meeting.

I like SMART a lot. I'm using a combination of smart and RR to remain sober.
There are no SMART meetings close to me but the online meetings are pretty good. I find them way more useful to me than when I attended AA meetings. It's worth looking into, just see what fits you best
