switching jobs
switching jobs
I work in a position that requires I take customers out for entertainment. Sounds like fun, right? Not for a recovering alcoholic. I'm wondering how many of you had to switch jobs in order to maintain your sobriety? I'm tired of constantly making excuses to semi-strangers as to why I don't drink. I'm tired of constantly being judged. Uggh.

I have a friend in sales who has the same issue.. That does seem like a hard battle.. My job makes it very easy for me to drink. Although its so miserable to fly with a hangover I usually did the binging at home... Hotels at least 2 nights a week. Plus most of the people I work with looooooove to drink... I'm just trying to adjust my schedule where I don't have time to drink.
I think drinking is a large social bonding event in many workplaces. Understanding that and still being able to participate without drinking is where I'm at. I have been using an excuse that I'm taking medication for my vitiligo (skin condition) that interferes with alcohol intake. I just can't jeopardize my business looking for some utopian world that doesn't exist.
