AA or not to AA? Aye?
AA or not to AA? Aye?
Ok so day 8 and I'm feeling pretty positive today, it's Friday got my lad for the weekend. My plan all week has been to go to 1st AA Meeting tonight at 8pm my g/f said she will quite happily have my son while I go.... Question is should I go?
I only found this SR yesterday and just reading and writing my thoughts down has helped greatly.
I don't want to my g/f to think I'm backing out of AA, I don't mind going just don't know whether it might be too early or do me any good right now!?
Any thoughts welcomed!

Hi,
It's certainly not too early to go to a meeting. Staying sober is difficult and you should investigate all the support options available. You don't have to only use one source, look at secular support resources as well.
best wishes

AA, and my fellow meeting attenders have become an extension of my family. A group of people that have been right where I am. They have faced the struggles that I have. I have found many friends at those tables. My husband claims to support me. But he doesn't get the struggle. He can't relate to a lot of what I am going through. He can be the best husband ever, but for me, I need the strength of people who have been there. Face to face. SR is another one of those tools where people get me. But AA is my rock at the moment.
Good luck whatever you decide

Can't hurt to check it out. Admission is free, so if you don't care for it you're only out an hour or so. Maybe fit in a trip to the ice cream parlor on the way there, always nice to have ice cream.
never too early.
AA is a good tool for learning and growing in your own understanding of struggles with alcohol and your own path to sobriety.
If you're committed to staying sober, have the ability to go to AA, want tools and support that will help contribute to a better, happier, richer, joyful, sober life; give it an honest effort.
You have nothing to lose and your life to gain.

Remember we went to any lengths to
get our drug of choice, mine being alcohol.
For recovery and sobriety to be successful
in the long run will be to go to any lengths,
doing whatever we need to do to remain
sober or clean each day we don't drink or
pick up.
There are many useful tools in recovery
to use to teach us and guide us along
our recovery journey. To help us build
a strong foundation to live our life upon
without drinking or using.
SR is just one tool Ive used in my own
recovery and has become my lifeline
in recovery when im not at an AA meeting.
AA meetings is a fellowship of many folks
just like us learning how not to drink or
kill ourselves with a poisonous substance
we put in our bodies.
After sitting in many many meetings, I
realized that all those folks had the same
problem as I having an addiction to alcohol
and how it was destroying just about everything
in its path. All the way from health issues,
to relationships, jobs, etc.
I found it comforting to sit amongst strangers
whom I didn't have to explain anything about
my addiction to because they already knew.
Many had already been there done that just
as I had.
One common problem using one common
solution helping, communicating, understanding,
teaching, learning from each other.
Today, some 24 yrs sober, AA recovery
is my soul purpose in life to remain sober
and to pass on what was so freely passed
on to be thruout the yrs. to you guys.
The rewards of the Promises as stated
in the Big Book of AA will come true
providing I live a sober life and pass
it on to achieve a healthy, happy, honest
life one day at a time.
So can you.

Hi and welcome.
I also without AA would be long dead. I needed structure in my life as opposed to the undisciplined way of life I was leading. There were things I didn’t like at first however now I appreciate very much, and life is now so much more relaxed compared to the drinking days.
It’s important to point out that recovery is on going work on ourselves learning and practice process. People have a tendency to slack off after a period and don’t “remember when” life was so difficult and repeating the same old practices that got us here.
BE WELL

well you will never know if aa is for you or not unless you at least pop along and give it a try
so what have you got to lose ?
all i know is how my life has turned around today compared to the drunken mess i turned up at aa doorsteps in
so give it a try and see how you feel after it

BE WELL
My aa club has a minimum of 8 boxes of Kleenex out all the time. Tears are common.
The thought of someone caring so much about themselves that they seek help to get better, actually brings a tear to me
I was at a meeting once and a young man came in late, reeking of booze, staggered into a chair and sat uncomfortably through the rest of the meeting. At the end of the meeting he told us through tears that he wanted to get sober and be a better father, but he didn't know how. Then he produced an open bottle of wine from his coat pocket and traded it for a white chip (signifying he wanted to give sober living a try).
I don't think you're gonna be too early.
