Hola

Hi everyone,

First of all, I wonder is anyone on here a "wet alcoholic" - does anyone have the odd glass of wine at a wedding or nights out at all? Is it possible to go back to being a social drinker only, do you think?

I've started a drinking diary when I realised things were completely out of hand. I have come to realise that through being a positive thing, alcohol has become a negative thing. I'm bored of the lies, the hiding, the sneaking about and the constant fear of being found out.

But, my friends, family and work are completely focussed around alcohol. My sister and boyfriend (my two closest people) keep it under control, and I wonder if in a while I could again too?

Once the daily drinking stops...

Once you cross the invisible line, there is no going back.

That is what alcoholism does to us.

We can recover by never drinking again, but we can't go back.

Welcome to SR!

There is an old saying, a pickle can't revert back to a cucumber. I sure can't, i don't have an off switch ;-)

Hi and welcome selfhelp

It wasn't possible for me - but thinking it might be kept me drinking a long time.

I have maybe a handful of times over 20 years I managed to 'drink like a gentleman'.
Bottom line for me was once I drink, all bets are off.

Is that the case for you too?

D

Welcome to the Forum!!

For me that 1st drink would always lead back to the same place, maybe not for a few days, but within a few weeks, things would spiral as bad as ever, cutting out that first drink was the way forward, I wend round in circles trying to control my drinking for a long time and it didn't work!!

You'll find loads of support here on SR!!

Im sorry to say, but people like us can never drink again. I like most have tried moderation and failed. It would inevitably lead to binge drinking and withdrawals.
