It all starts with....
A desire to stop drinking/using. A want to stop escaping. Sometimes a desperate cry in the shadows of the night, that something's has to change. It's not up to my spouse, my employer, a judge, my children, etc. if I don't have the desire to make changes, I won't make changes. This is where the root of recovery comes in--- 1. What do I want? 2. How am I going to attain it?
We all have choices, which consequences do follow. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. But in order for us to get better, we must first and foremost want it.
(I just woke up and had an intervention type dream-- I kept repeating this in my dream. You have to want it!!!! I'm not sure who was the subject of the intervention, but it doesn't matter, the root of recovery starts the same way with everyone. A simple desire.....)
