Blood work, gettting my job back, apprehension please pray wish for me

This morning brought more bad news my way, as suspected my blood test were horrendous (I was cautioned that AST and ALT aren't great predictors of actual liver function, sigh that is good news) and now I need to apply for medicaid or Obama care ( not sure which yet) and see a liver specialist and a GP they say.

Essentially sitting here waiting for the confirmation from my work that I am fired, but its all but a done deal. The local office fired me but the main office has to give approval because its a medical related issue I am told.

Thank you kindly folks for all of you well wishes last night. I got all melodramatic and did what I always do, freak out without having the facts and depressing myself.

Today, however; is not lost filling out job applications. I am spending the day with my wife watching movies and this afternoon ( with a great deal of reluctance) I am going to get public aide applications and fill them out.

After reading everyone post yesterday, I now know what I have to do. I have to bite the bullet and just do rehab especially if I get medicaid, I would have no excuse.

This is actually a grand opportunity though, the opportunity to eat better ( improve liver function) exercise, find work more inline with the degree's I've collected for no reason, see a doctor, and who knows maybe even a gym membership if I get back on my feet.

Before I could live in the dark, knowing my blood test work was bad before, but not that big of a deal. Now I know my blood work is horrible and the doctor even cautioned me to not eat fatty foods and to look up a " liver safe diet" up to the time I can see a real specialist in the field.

I am not usually one of these self help types, but I read this morning sometimes you have to write your goals out and then post them for you to see everyday. I am almost felt silly doing it, but I put stick it notes on my fridge saying things like " fruits and vegitibles are good choices" a note on my computer that says " computer time is fun, but exercise leads to a longer life" yes, I made a game of it, yes its silly, but you know what alcohol can kill and these notes make me smile and laugh and our encouraging. LOL, the one on my front door says " Go with purpose and achieve greatness" hahaha. Its given me a laugh this morning!

Good day to you all, like always stay safe and sober and I move on to a new chapter. I wish the same for all of you. Oh and post those notes, I actually had fun with it, it was good advice.

You are handling the news well, TDG Is the doctor going to help you with a food list that is safe for your liver? Or are you supposed to find it all on your own? Let us know what you come up with. There is the Healthy Eating section on here - you could start a thread there and document your food choices.

I know what you are going through in some aspects. Chin up my friend. You're doing a lot better today, always a good thing.
Moved out my tool box today and tomorrow will be my last day after 23 years of working that job.
On to the next.......
Much more confidence now that I'm not a slave to alcohol anymore.

HEY, that sounds like a GREAT idea. Keep doing that. Let me know who it goes. I am thinking about a couple of notes I can write and hang up at work tomorrow.....

Maybe this is the silver lining in a bad situation. I know people can recover from liver issues if caught early. Once you start eating better, exercising, and making a plan for your future, I know you will fell so much better. Reach out for the help that you need. There are resources that are there just for the situation you are in. Don't feel bad about asking for help - that's why it's there, to help people. Good luck!!

Delivery,

All the blood work tells you is that you need to stop NOW. I also received terrifying numbers on mine and they are down again now that I have complete and total and 100% abstinence. Take away what's causing the problem and the problem usually goes away. I know it is horrible to receive that news but use it as your motivation to stop now. I scoured this site to read about other people's blood work numbers and there have been people who's levels were in the thousands and when they stopped, they became healthy again. I know you are scared but please know there is hope. Cut the booze now and figure out the rest later. Please keep us posted.

I think most of us fear we've gone too far to ever be well again or live a long life...but in the *vast* majority of cases that's simply not true - it will take some time, but I'm confident you'll be ok too TDG

Smack that stuff down...it's just plain old fashioned fear..the same kind we used for years as a reason to drink. We don't need that reason anymore.

Hope the results won't freak you out too much - remember, you're doing everything right now - that's the very best way to tackle this

D

Don't panic, TDG! As Dee points out we always fear the worst but there's lots of reason for optimism. As soon as you stop poisoning your body it begins to heal. The key is to stop harming it! A gym membership is great but in the interim just eat better, do some pushups, etc. Go walking or jogging. Help your body!

Every day on the green side of the grass is a gift! And you're never defeated til you're dead. Remember that!

Things might look bad but you're taking the steps you need to take to start living your life again. That's a good thing, TDG.
