Asthma and alcohol
This is NOT a request for any medical advice!
I'm from a medical background, very aware of all the alcohol dangers.
Asthma has recently been playing up............3 ED visits in past week.
I have tried umpteen sobriety attempts since joining SR. I know that during the withdrawal phase, each person experiences a compendium of symptoms.
This week i've had 3 ED asthma related visits.
My question is this;
Are there any asthmatics who have successfully withdrawn from alcohol noticed that withdrawal symptoms exacerbated their asthma?
Are there people without asthma who have successfully withdrawn from alcohol but experienced acute breathlessness during withdrawal...........as in feeling breathless lifting arms up to wash their hair in a shower?
As said. No med advice requested, just a general query.
Thanks
LP

Hi Lifeplant.
I don't suffer from asthma but did suffer breathing problems during withdrawal, tight chest as well... This did pass after a week or so but came back a few weeks later.. I discovered it was coffee causing it. Apparently caffeine can have an effect on the airwaves & lungs hence why I have now gone on to decaf & it has stopped.. AsI said most people suffer breathing problems in withdrawal so I can't imagine what it is like for somebody with asthma!! Hang in there but keep an eye on your breathing with the Doc..

Asthmatic here too! Breathless a lot. I do have a lot of success using my Advair,but now that I look back, I used my inhaler a lot too. If I use my maintenance med, I seem to be ok. I had so many other unpleasant withdrawals that my asthma didn't rate at top of that list. Good luck!!! There are good maintenance plans out there, your doc will hopefully help you find one!!!
