hello im new and need to stop drinking

Hello- ive been a alcoholic for 20 yrs drinking has been a normal part of my life for as long as I can remember because it runs in the community im from, I just moved to a new place where alcohol is frowned upon by everyone and I guess i just miss my family but ive been bingeing for about 3 months straight , ive already pretty much made myself a outcast because I just couldn't stop but now I've reached the point where im losing my sanity and I have to stop , the community im in now is exactly what I prayed for as the last had a heavy drug and alcohol problem and im the kind of alcoholic that drinks by myself , I dont really like being around drug users anyways I just became a member in hopes of quitting for good and checking in a few times a day kinda like A.A. I have anxiety disorder so I cant go to real A.A. Thanks for having me

Read around and post often! Why not join the "Class of August 2014" thread, or check in at the "24-Hour Recovery Connections" thread?

Good to see you here, Pete. This is a kind, generous and wise group. Stay with SR. I've heard others say that sobriety helps to decrease anxiety so hopefully that will be true for you.

Welcome Pete!

Alcohol actually exacerbates anxiety disorder. You get a few hours of relief followed by weeks of increased anxiety. bad stuff!

Congratulations on your decision to live a sober life!

Hello Pete!
Give sobriety a try, and you will see that after short time your anxiety will decrease massively.
Anyway, be sure you check your doctor to help you go trough withdrawal.
I wish you all the best!!

Welcome, Nocturnal. Good for you on day 3. The early weeks are the hardest, but not too bad if you really commit and this is a GREAT place for support. Just hang on this site and read and post- now you have two communities to help you out when you need it.

Welcome!!! Quitting isn't easy but after the first few days and once the worst of the withdrawals are over it gets easier. Just take it one day at a time and you will make it! So glad you came to SR.
