I begin tonight.

Well I first showed up just over a week back saying I'd had enough after almost 14 months drinking between half and a whole bottle of vodka every night of the week...... Since my first post just over a week ago I've logged in everyday and read other peoples posts and journeys and people taking the plunge.... But all the while I was here reading and watching I was still on the vodka....
Well..... It's now 10.15pm, partner has gone out with her freinds, kids are in bed and I'm sat here....AND.... I'm not drinking.
This is usually the exact time I'd be pouring my first drink and settling in for a good few hours getting wasted.....
The pure fact I'm not drinking and I know there's not a drop in the house is certainly making me feel edgy but I've just cleaned the kitchen, sorted some washing out and made a cup of tea.....
Last drink was last night so guess you could say it's my first 24 hours......
I don't know how things will pan out, how I'll feel tomorrow, what side effects I'll suffer etc etc but I'm gonna give it a damn good shot......
Wish me luck people and thanks for your replies and warm response to my previous posts

Congratulations on choosing to begin a sober life.

You will likely feel like drinking again. What will you do when that happens? What's the plan?

it all starts right there.... right where you are....

more than seven and a half months later, for me anyway, life just keeps on getting better.

You can do this.

Great decision on not drinking tonight. You CAN do this and it does get easier with time.

Give it all you have got, just don't drink. Take it an hour at a time until you can take it a day at a time. Just don't take that first drink..

Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess the best thing about this place is that the support and encouragement is instant, there's always somebody online....
What I'm gonna do when I need to drink? Just face it in the moment, don't make it bigger than it is worrying how I'm gonna survive the day or night.....
Was actually thinking before and I'm literally gonna put my life into hour long stages..... Always think ahead what I'm gonna do in the next hour... Walk the dog, make a cuppa, read a book, listen to an album, watch a documentary, spend an hour on here reading posts and encouraging others......
I feel edgy already, out of sorts, but I'm being realistic..... Feeling edgy or jittery isn't gonna hurt me, and is it any more uncomfortable than waking up with the hangover from hell and spending the day hating myself for drinking yet again.

Very good idea to think of ways to distract yourself in the first few days. There's bound to be some anxiety & discomfort - but once you're through it, you never have to go back there. You have a great attitude Kubis - you're going to do this.

Kubis, I am really proud of you, we all are!

You have a plan to keep busy, that's key. Keep trucking, I guarantee you that just a few days without the sauce and you will see benefits already. And no hangover from hell as you put it ;-)

Okay, so went to bed at midnight last night, it's now 5.15 in the morning and I'm just up getting ready for work.... Probably managed half an hours sleep ALL night
To be expected I know, but even though I've hardly slept it's nice to be awake without feeling hungover..... Let's see what today brings...
Wish me luck guys.... I'm sure I'll have a few inner battles today.
