24 hours sober
I decided last night after finishing another bottle of my drink of choice(rum) that it would be my last drink. I have been an alcoholic for over four years. The last two years I have drank almost every single night. I was functioning but barely. By the time my hangover was gone and I was home from work, it was time to drink again. I can't even understand how I got to this point. In the beginning I told myself I can keep it in check, I will never let it get out of control. I was so very wrong. So now I start a new chapter in my life, a sober one. Feeling excited, scared, weak, and alone.
Keep a close eye on yourself because withdraw can be serious and deadly. I know I thought I was in the clear after my first 24 hours but then hour 40 came.... Within the next 24 hours I thought I was going to die twice and might have if it wasnt for my step father. I was able to get medical help from him because he's a nurse then got my ass to a detox facility and quit safely.
Be safe and if you think you might need help get it ASAP. Good luck and hang in there because it does get better if you commit to change.

Hey me too! I could keep this in control......no worries.
There isn't even one point where it went bad, just a slow drip, drip, steadily getting ever so slightly worse.
I remember feeling pretty good a couple of weeks back on my first day, good for you.
(Still feeling good by the way)

Welcome! Good thing you found this site . Making the decision and a plan is the first step in the right direction.
But as it was mentioned, do be careful with withdrawal. I never thought I would suffer alcohol withdrawal but ended up in emergency twice.
Blessings!
