Any advice on how to fight the urges? My rational mind seems to shut down
I can go about three or four weeks before I give in. I'm doing much, much better
I used to be a daily drinker. I want to put amend to this.

The main things for me are changing out my pattern of life, making sure I'm not sitting around with too much time on my hands to think, because that used to end up with me thinking about alcohol.
Not drinking is only part of maintaining Sobriety, we need to change up our lifestyle patterns too!!

After three and half years sober, I don't get many urges any more.
But when I did, I just remembered the horrors of the day after a bender, the fear, remorse and anxiety. They all awaited me if I took that first drink.
I come here and read the Newcomers pages and am reminded of what it's like 'out there'.
It hasn't changed. These things help me stay sober.
Best to you.
