OT-"Intervention"

DD6 is with separated AH today. So I have been trying to keep busy. I had breakfast with a girl friend, read, cleaned, ran errands, etc...I came home to relax before I go to church tonight. I turned on the tv and came across the show "Intervention". There playing like 6 back to back and I have been glued to the couch!

I am totally balling my head off but I like it! Its like therapeutic! Lol!!! Some of them take the help, some dont, etc...Anyone else watch this show??

That show makes me cry like a baby too. But I found I had to stop watching it because it kept me in touch with his struggles & since I have ended things with him, I need to focus on myself.

I never really cared for that show.

My current tv obsession is L.A. Hair.

I watched it when I was married to XAH. It showed the same insanity that I was living in.

I used to watch it all the time before I knew my husband was an alcoholic. Now I'm much more emotional when I watch it.

Glad you found something that really clicked with you and i hope it gives you some perspective on others' struggles (not saying you lacked it before). A good cry is therapeutic. What do you think of the intervention process?

I used to watch before I got sober 4 1/2 years ago. I think I liked it then because in a sick way I believed I wasn't as bad as them.
I watched a few episodes a couple of months ago and all I could see on the screen was my AW. I identified with the show way more than when I was drinking. It was pretty painful to watch the family members and think " hey that's me". But I never thought that when I was the one with the problem. Weird.

iamthird....one of the interventionists...a pretty blond woman...has written a book of her addiction and recovery...with chapters also written by her mother. One of the most powerful books of this type on addiction that I have ever read.If you liked the show--you would probably appreciate the book very much!!

iamthird......It is called "the lost years"--surviving a mother and daughter's worst nightmare
by Kristina Wandzilak and Constance Curry. Kristina is the pretty blond interventionist that I spoke of (the daughter with the addiction).
You can get it used on Amazon pretty cheaply.

You will recognize her picture on the front cover of the book.
(if you read it--I would love for you to let me know what you think of it).

I've seen it a few times, but its very emotional for me. I dont wtach it much because it stirs up all those emotions. Maybe as I get stronger and heal more.

I watch it quite a bit. Sometimes I have to turn it off b/c it makes me upset but mostly I like it. I think the key is that they always offer inpatient treatment for a significant amount of time.
