My dog and best pal was put to sleep on Monday. He was fine on Sunday. He collapsed on Sunday night. He died on Monday morning. I am still in shock. I went the doctor today to find that my liver blood tests are raised. I have also been on sick leave for 2 months. Finding it hard to cope at the moment. Doctor put me on valium in addition to antidepressants which I have been on for years. She told me not to drink while on valium.....so here goes. Any advice welcome.

Snaggle, I'm so sad to hear about your dog. I've recently been through this and it's hard to adjust to life without them.
I'm glad you got advice from your doctor. Your best friend wouldn't want you to drink because of what happened. Please be careful and cautious as you go through this grieving process. You'll feel stronger and better as time goes on. I hope you'll keep posting.

I'm so sorry for your loss of your best friend. God knows my dog is my best friend and I love him so.
Are you sober now/were you sober when your liver tests were done? Did your doc say that they might return to normal if you stop drinking?

I have to get tests repeated in a few weeks. If I don't drink they should return to normal. If not doc is gonna refer me for full liver screen. My iron levels are also raised. Liver bloods slightly raised but I know this is the stArt of a slippery slope. I start valium tomorrow and have been told not to drink. I won't. My house and life is too quiet without my wee boy.

I'm sorry for your loss Snaggle.
I know it's painful, but resist the urge to numb yourself out.
Death and loss are painful, but we get through the sadness by engaging with the reality, asking for support, remembering the good times and the good memories, and eventually getting to a place where we can dry our tears and move on again.
I think you're stronger than you know

Hi Snaggle;
I'm so sorry for your loss.
My dogs are my best friends and family too.
I lost one of mine after 12 wonderful years a few months ago
and went through it sober.
It was tough, but helpful to be sad without numbing it.

No advice but wanted to say so very sorry on the loss of your dog. We had to put ours down last year at age 13 and I still miss him. Try to remember the happy times with him - hopefully will make you smile!
