SR and my wonderful addiction counselor. Been working for over four and a half years now. Oh yes, and the motivation of taking better care of my critters helped a lot.

Mostly SR for me, I did also do some AA meetings early on too. Lots of reading and support from my family too.

SR for me. I used it copiously, and I was ready to quit.

Sr & aa.

Last edited by Coldfusion; 07-23-2014 at 06:59 PM. Reason: it won't make SR and AA capitals

AA, SR, some AVRT and Women For Sobriety for a bit (but it conflicted with my schedule. I still get their newsletter though )
I knew from my previous experience that I needed to work the steps asap and get into service which I did.
While many see AVRT as conflicting with AA, I worked it in such a way that they do complement themselves nicely instead of opposing.
I wish I had been aware of the concept and the techniques back then: my AV might not have caught me off guard back.
But it's water under the bridge, this time around I made sure I had as many tools on my belt as possible and I am aware of the pitfall of isolating and not reaching out to other alcoholics when things get very rough.

It certainly isn't always easy, I can admit that.

I went and saw a drug and alcohol counsellor and was totally upfront with him. He sent me to daytox and I was able to learn different coping skills, find out about different programs and it pushed me to open my mind.

For me it was all about changing my attitude and willing to be open to doing things that I didn't really want to do in the past. I do 3 different programs AA, WFS and sometimes SMART. I just get something out of each of them. For me it is taking what I get from the programs and shelving the negative until I am ready for them. I try not to complicate the programs cause I can find lots of reason for not doing them so I hang on the small reasons that I should do them. Baby steps.

And I also spend a lot of time here and it has helped me in my recovery.

For me there was no real magic, I got to the point where I wanted sobriety so bad that I was and am willing to do what I have to in order to keep it. You have to be willing to change. It's just that simple .

I gave up the fight. Checked into Rehab (12 Step Program based). From Rehab forward I do the program(AA/CA). I was a lurker here on SR for a bit, then in April of '13 I came across the daily sign in forum. My Higher Power, AA, and SR. Bobbi

I used AA in my early months, SR quite a bit too. I no longer attend AA. I use SR daily & see a psych that specializes in addiction recovery weekly.

I attend at least one a week. I also got to an al anon meeting once a week.
About 3 1/2 years ago I rejoined my old church.
Perfect balance for me at my age.

SR for me. I found SR the day I gave up drinking but didn't join for 6 months. Now, I'm here every day and have learned so much and grown so much that I hardly recognise myself!

I've also had a lot of support from my partner, friends and family which I truly appreciate

SR for me, daily. AVRT to understand me more and WFS for learning to be a stronger person.

Urge surfing for when the cravings hit, which they do and it is so important to have something in place for when they do. Just an aside but so often I read on SR people in the early days going to drinking functions and being with people drinking and thinking they are cured as they didn't want to drink. Do not be fooled this will always be the case . The urges/cravings hit when you least expect and it was critical for me to have some coping mechanism in place to deal with it

AA,SR and my spiritual belief.
And a profound understanding that i had reached the end of my particular rope.
Drink and die, or live sober come what may.
Some call it the gift of desperation.

AA and SR are my support system.

I attend AA meetings but I also work the program and give back. I come to SR to give and receive support as well. I also talk to my sponsor and others in the AA fellowship on a regular basis.

I pray every morning and turn it over to my HP.

IOP, SR, a bit of AVRT, a bit of SMART, WFS here and there, some AA meetings, and follow-up Continuing Care meetings after IOP. I'm now working through the twelve steps. Oh, and lots of recovery books!
