Day 11, tested again!
Got through a 3-day Disneyland vacation with NO booze. Amazing. No drinking in the park (and I know all the places that sell wine)...plus it was all over the hotel pool area. Servers walking around taking drink orders. Abundant in the gift shop. I felt like why bother? You're just going to want more and end up drinking a bottle.
Well today, the co-pilot was 45 minutes late. I am talking about a United Airlines commercial flight!
So, to make up for this, the captain made an announcement that, as we had to wait over an hour, as the co-pilot's lateness meant we also had to wait another 20 minutes (beyond the 45 minutes) to take off because we had missed our takeoff time...
The captain said "free alcohol! Get whatever you want!"
I was like, great, I am cursed! I have NEVER passed up free booze!!!
And I had the excuses...the flight was leaving late...it makes flying more pleasant...I had a 4-yr-old on the flight and maybe she was going to get grumpy...I was ending my vacation and going home to an alcohol-free house.
I could have rationalized drinking in many ways. That is what I used to do.
Well, surprisingly, I passed on the free booze! I had that same - why bother? feeling.
I honestly can't say that for sure, an alcoholic drink will never pass through my lips, but I like myself better sober.

Hey we quit on the same day! Congrats and I know how you must have felt travelling with kids and being stressed - I also NEVER refused free booze - ha ha.
At least you live in an alcohol-free house. I have to endure my husbands drinking and avoid his booze every day. It's hard but I too am starting to get the "why bother" attitude -- because, I feel so much better about me when I'm sober.
Thanks for the post,

Good for you!!! I'm only on day 2 and don't know what I would have done if I was offered free wine. Like Anchorhold said...I would NEVER turn down free wine. I am proud of you and it takes posts like yours, to help people like me get through it because if you can, so can I!!!
That is an amazing accomplishment! You should feel very proud of yourself. Just remember how bad you would have felt if you had caved. You would have made it the whole vacation to ruin it on the flight home. And free booze the whole flight? You might have gone overboard and been too drunk to get your child home safely. You are amazing for staying strong! You can do this now
