Glad to be here

Good Day to all;

I am hopeful this forum will lend some support/answer questions, between AA meetings and working steps. I am just 44 days sober - longest period in many, many years.

Felt pretty good actually for a few weeks which was remarkable. Now it seems that waves of emotions sweeps over me from happiness to deep sadness/despair. Trying to get a handle on it and for me turn it over...starting to have vivid dreams of people/places in a bar handing me a drink. Before I know it I am drunk and wake up wondering wth that's all about.

Glad to be here and REALLY need to hear from those with short term sobriety.
Thank you,
Flynbuy

Greetings FlynBye!

My heartfelt congratulations on 44 days of sobriety

Sober Recovery is a great place with lots of support, advice and success stories.

You are not the only one who has dreams of alcohol...I do ALL the time, sometimes waking up wondering if I had another terrible drunken episode yet again. I hear that is normal in early recovery...

Im sure we would all love to hear more from you!

Blessings!

Hi Flynbuy, I'm at day 42 so you're 2 days ahead of me. I've been having some highs and lows as well, not extreme mood swings like you're experiencing, but my mood does go up and down. I think it's normal in early sobriety and expect this too shall pass. I've had one dream where I drank and bolted up out of bed full of anxiety before I realized it was just a dream. I really like waking up without a hangover feeling at peace instead of full of dread trying to piece together what happened before I passed out.

There is a really great article on PAWS that I came across on this site the other day. It describes, including approx. time periods of the different stages, what commonly occurs with our bodies and mind in the first 2 years of recovery. If interested do a search on this site. I copied it out but can't remember where I saw it.

Congrats on the 44 days!
