Looks like I'm getting hooked again....

Been a while now. Just here and there.... at first sort of gradually and with disdain. Wasn't a lot to it. No consistency. But slowly, slowly, it's become a daily thing. Something I think about a lot. Can't seem to get through a day without at least a little. Don't really feel "right" without it. Gotta have it.

And I grow a little stronger every day. And it helps the stress, the anxiety. Complements my life in so many ways. Helps me stay sober. Yeah... I'm back on track with regular exercise. Runs have started to feel GOOD again. I can feel muscle tone really developing again. My body is changing. Things are shaping up and I'm feeling more fit and coordinated and solid.

Damn I love being hooked.

Ahh! I gotta get back into the gym. I seem to have developed a new skill though - procrastanation :\ Funny, I never put "drinking" off when I was a drinker.

Haha, that was a cheeky opening to your post!

Once upon a time (hell only 12 months ago) I could be classed as an athlete and I too am now starting to regularly exercise again. It really does help! Kudos to you and keep up the great work!

Love this! I'm in early sobriety and I've found that a great way to quell the anxiety and nervous energy is to strap on my sneakers and hit the pavement with my little dog. We're up to walking 3 miles a day and I hope to eventually feel that "hooked" feeling that you're describing. Thanks for your post!

Before becoming a daily a drinker I was a daily gym goer and I'm slowly getting back in to it. I've just joined the new hi tech gym in the city and although it's not cheap I know it's a good investment. I've been walking and cycling for an hour most days trying to build up to my first proper work out there. Endorphins beat alcohol every time

Sigh...Freeowl. Thanks for the reminder. I love running and I NEED to do it. But I fell of my non smoking wagon (as I did in last sobriety). I gotta throw that nicotine patch back on eventually cuz I know how much I need to run

thanks all!!!

It took a while and I was slow to start... but the tipping point has been reached and I'm feeling the energy come back and the motivation to keep on it and the 'addiction' to keeping running and working out in my daily plan.

My first-ever 50k is coming up in about a month!!

WHOOOOOOOOT!!!!!

50k?! Nice!! How long have you been training? My long runs are only up to 8 miles right now. I can't imagine running 31 miles! Kudos and happy running!!

well I follow a non-traditional training program. To wit; I train for marathons mostly by running them.

The upside is that I avoid over-use injury that way. I have run several marathons and never with any set program. I run a few days a week, a few long runs here and there, hill work, the gym - but it's nowhere near what many do and certainly not a 'program'. I've never done a 50k and this one is a particularly challenging trail one with lots of very technical singletrack and a lot of elevation... so it'll be pretty interesting. Running a trail marathon about three weeks prior also..... so.... hahah!!!

What is it about us alcoholics? ALL OR NOTHING!!!!

Soberliceous: and here Airwick comes,

pulling up the rear at 4 months sober,

I think she can break her record and hit the 5 month miles marker.

With the support of the SR family anything is possible lol

That's really great, BUT you had me concerned there for a few seconds! Aren't you sassy?!

I am trying to get back into the swing of exercising regularly... walking and swimming are my favs.

If I open a bottle of wine, it's gone. A normal, 750 ml bottle, is a single serving to soberjuly...

And I would still feel unsatisfied and not really be done until I had another 1/2 a bottle in me.

My husband can drink 1/2 a glass and leave the rest, ignored, on the kitchen counter...
