Thrush is basically a yeast infection (you don't say where you have it, but I am going to assume worst case scenario here). Surprisingly, alcohol usually contributes to thrush, not the other way around. I suppose it's possible that it could be related to not drinking, or it could be a part of a delayed detox. Definitely talk to your doctor. Don't be embarrassed, it's all part of being human (and a lady). But definitely don't drink, as that will likely exacerbate your symptoms!
By oral treatment do you mean Diflucan? I can't think of any other oral treatments but Diflucan. Also, I'm not sure if they have Monistat (or something like it) in the UK, but if they do, try the seven day treatment. Not the one day, or the three day, the SEVEN day. Make sure to use it for the entire week even if you start feeling better. Also, try to stay away from sugary foods that yeast thrive on. Eat lots of yogurt, and get a good probiotic. I have found taking a probiotic everyday is a good preventative, and will also help you heal faster.
In my experience, we women usually have a pretty good idea about what's going on with our own bodies, but if you've tried these things and nothing has helped, see your doctor ASAP.

I'm not sure if you've ever tried Diflucan before (it's by prescription only) but it's awesome. It's one pill you take orally, and for me it works within hours. Mention it to your doctor, if she doesn't mention it to you.

I get that after anti-biotics Charlotte and erm...applying natural yogurt, work wonders
You don't need to see GP - your local chemist will be able to help. Actually, scrap that - if its your first time with it, you DO need to get the Doc to check it out

I think a big change in diet or stress (like stopping alcohol) can change your natural balance enough to make you react to yeast bacteria you'd normally tolerate. If the symptoms are annoying there's no shame in seeing a doctor.
