Day 6 - so far so fairly good

AA meetings and this board are keeping me going. This time it has to be for good. But man, when do the urges and the alcohol obsession finally subside!!

I couldn't click "Thanks" more than once, so I had to quote this ^^

The habits take a while to replace. Don't pick up that first drink and you never have to do this again.

For me, the obsession lessened greatly within the first six months. The cravings are few and far between now. And don't last long. I'm going on 500 days now, and can see the cravings and urges are diminished.

Mostly what happens is an image of wine pops up... or an image of me driving to the store... or of me in the kayak with a beer... sometimes a taste memory. But they are easy to deal with. I don't deny they're there, and I don't try and push them away. I let them be what they are. Just a craving that can't hurt me, can't overpower me, can't make me go take a drink.

For me, when my focus shifted from not drinking to living sober things improved rapidly. It took me a while, but it made a huge difference.

6 days is great. You can get through this!

And trach is right - ICE CREAM!

(I also found bacon has magical properties!)

Great work on six days. Although my obsession has lessened dramatically, obviously my AV is still very much "in there".

How bout chocolate covered bacon? Saw it in a Paleo diet and I have been curious about it ever since.

Nuu... Wine pops. Ha! Never had those but I've seen them on Pinterest. Guess I guzzled it down too fast to wait for it to freeze, lol.

And haven't had the chocolate bacon either. Sounds good in theory though. I keep thinking I'll try it one day.

6 days is great, and you are right, it does seem like an obsession in the early days.

I think the thing is, accept it's normal and over time, looking for ways to keep alcohol off your mind is exactly the skill you need to learn. Over time, it's not as pervasive, and all is good!

Trust me, sobriety brings out interesting things! I was like you, never really cared much for ice cream. Oh man. That changed. It's not bad now, but I definitely went through a naughty ice cream phase. Hadn't thought of it for ages til Endgame mentioned salted caramel gelato in another thread....and off I went to buy some salted caramel ice cream. :/

You're doing well....AV is damn annoying, that's for sure!
