new stand

Feeling miserable and loathing in self-pity after my last relapse,
I've taken a new stand. It seems that I have a tendency to
slip somewhere around the 5 or 6 week mark.
This time, I've made a mental "contract" to stop for
60 days officially starting today. I figure 60 sober days of
freedom beats a possible 60 day jail sentence for a dui or something worse.
Gotta keep trying.

That was my mark as well....5 or 6 weeks then WHAMMO. My 60 days is coming up on Friday
Unfortunately, I can honestly (brutally) say, had it NOT been for the 2nd DUI...I probably would not have got to 60 days. it took something that bad to knock me in the head and scream "WAKE UP WOMAN!!"

You can do it lunar!!!! And you can do it without needing a crappy wake up call like I did.
*HUGS*

lunar, I have fallen down a bunch of times too but keep getting back up and pushing to do it again. my goal is to quit 100%, but most importantly it's my goal to not give up!

a day at a time or 60 days at a time, whatever works

Relapse is a normal part of the recovery process Lunar. It means you have an intention to quit, which is the most important part - motivation. If you saw no reason to change your drinking then you wouldn't be relapsing because you wouldn't have quit in the first place! So clearly you want to change - that's good!

I relapsed after 6 months in recovery, did some more "field research" to verify I was an alcoholic for a couple years, and then sobriety "took" the second time around. But I have to stress that it didn't just happen - I was "working" a program of recovery.

Whether you seek 12 step meetings, counseling, prayer, posting here etc., changing involves a lot more than just not drinking, although that is crucial.
A saying that has stood by me in some trying times is: "If I do what I always did I'll get what I always got." Something about the way we think has to change, or we will come to the same conclusions that lead us back to drinking. Welcome back!

Hey Lunar, I totally get the wanting too change thing, I wish it was easy to do it but I have always had complete faith in you since day one, you seem to have an inner strength that I see in myself and I know you can do these next 60 days and them some.

You know you can PM me anytime buddy.
Stuart.
