2 months sober today.

I am really loving my new life. Occasionally drinking wine crosses my mind - the romanticised version! I immediately think of what I'd lose if I pick up a drink again. I've had a long period of sobriety in the past. I picked up when my best friend died. It has taken me close to five years to get back to this point.

I do believe the recovery (early as it may be) is better now than last time. I have added lots of 'good stuff' (exercise, yoga and a passion for healthy cooking and eating) into my life to ensure there is less space for the 'bad stuff' (alcohol).

I know I need to be vigilant every day. I conned myself after 6 years of sobriety last time that I could now drink normally! There was nothing normal about my drinking - honestly my behaviour and drinking patterns got so much worse. Alcoholism is certainly progressive. I read a post yesterday - someone wrote about how easily they forget - I agree SR is so important to remind me about the struggle.

Thank you all for your support. I'm thinking about a facial or massage this weekend to celebrate.

Congratulations on two months, and the healthy decisions you are making. I am so glad you posted the details of you relapse, because I am afraid of that. I only have 14 days, but that is the most straight time I have had in 12 years. I am glad you shared about that part, it really helped me get some focus because I am headed into a situation the next 3 days that is really bothering me and bringing me down and I don't want to drink.

Thank you and congratulations!

Congrats on your sober time! Also wanted to thank you for your post as it is a good reminder that sober times does not equal ability to drink again. I had 13 years and also thought the same thing!

That's great! Just stay focused. You can do this. Just feeling better is worth it.
