2 years of sobriety today...and the earth shakes
Woke up this morning feeling pretty excited to share some deep thoughts regarding my 2-year anniversary of sobriety. About 10 minutes later, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit here on the border of Mexico/Guatemala, and I ran outside in my pajamas along with several others. I was awake, adrenaline pumping, eyes wide open. Buildings trembled, the ground swayed, water splashed from fountains and a deep rumbling shook the earth. I was purely "in the moment".
And I think that is a perfect analogy for my thoughts today. Instead of dwelling on where I've been, or worrying about where I'm going, I am alert and focused on the present. I am not just alive, I am living.
A couple of years ago I probably would have used this as an excuse to drink, and have an "earthquake party" or something. Today, I am thinking of what I might be able to do to help those affected in the nearby mountain towns. That is who I am today.
I owe so much to the treatment center, close friends and family, and the support I've received here. Thanks so much to everyone at SR for being a steadfast sounding board for my ramblings, jokes, questions, fears and joys over the past 20 months or so. I hope you continue to hold my hand as I walk this road.

I am really happy for you BigS. I addition to being an inspiration and helping me along the way its nice to see you living life. You represent someone who has changed their life to fit the life you want to lead. This is courageous and honorable and I am glad to be a small part of your journey!
