There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I was just treated to 1.5 hours of beast.

I went down to my folks house for the holiday and no one ever drinks there. Use to be a problem for me, but not any longer. Critter knows we don't drink at the the folks'.

Back when I was an idiot, when I left there I would get a large lemonade at McD's. Drink about 1/8 of it and top it off with vodka. Why waste 1.5 hours of drinking time , right?

"Turn left. Hey, turn! McD and the liquor store are LEFT!"

"Oh, we're going to the next town over? Well, don't turn here!"

"Hey, there's that one you stopped at before and a Wendy's. WHY AREN'T YOU STOPPING?"

"Publix? What the...ooooooo, beer? Wine?"

"Salad Dressing? Are you serious?"

"Ok, you can still run down to the favorite store. Don't turn into the apartments!"

The drink after the folks' house was a long tradition. The buzz after the soberness. Throughout the tirade, I ignored It.

I got my reward in advance of this episode. My Dad and I were sitting on the patio and he said to me:

"You HAVE changed."

Wow! That was very a touching thing coming from Pa. It means so much to him to see you on the ups, speaking as a parent. Well done.

I did that too with the fountain drink at McD's--except I did it with diet coke! Then I'd sip it all the way home! Now I have better things to do than play little sneaky-games with myself! It feels great to triumph over the naggy, goading AV, doesn't it?

"The buzz after the soberness." Exactly, exactly. Oh how I understand that feeling!

Your Beast does sound cheeky, LOL!

Yes, it does, Gilmer.

Reading Boudicca's thread again this morning, I find myself still amazed at the power of AVRT/RR. When the war is already won, the outcomes of the battles are known.

it took a long time before I heard that from my parent's

a good reason for me to stay sober today

it is hard and takes a good while to earn that trust back

It is masterful at manipulating us with our own words. "It knows what scares you, it has from the very beginning," LOL!

When other people notice the change in us that is a very good thing.

Interesting that you used a bible quote in the secular forum "wailing and gnashing of teeth".

That is really neat. Sounds like you've tamed the beast and it's so cool that your dad noticed.

Elle, it's not tamed. It rages and whines, pleads and begs, whimpers and moans. But, it is ignored.
