Ugh fourth of july bartender!

I'm at a party right now and the bartender (a friend) is being really nice by offering me drinks! I keep on declining. He keeps on offering. After six nos he brought over a gun and tonic and shoved it into my hands. I put it aside and told him that I didn't feel like drinking. He was all "cone on live a little" and then brought me a margarita!!! Boyfriend does not understand why I want to go home. I'm in the bathroom posting here because I need the strength! I won't drink no matter what, but this is hard!!!!

It's time to go!! . . . it's fantastic that you turned down 7 drinks, but this is risky, time to implement your exit strategy!!

You can do this, but parties may need to be off the list of activities for a while!!

I know that it was just a spelling error but for an alcoholic in recovery it might as well be a 'gun and tonic'!

I hope you can get out of there soon. Stay STRONG!

Can you get yourself home? Call a taxi or something? Sounds like a good time to leave.

Hi Zelda, nod and smile and say goodbye, It would be lovely if your boyfriend will leave with you. However, if he is not understanding, thats cool...just leave by yourself, you will be ok.
We sometimes have to reach extra hard to get to the strawberries in our life, sobriety is yours. Drinking sucks for us. x

Definitely, leave if you possibly can. Just get out of the situation and go home and relax. No need to stress yourself anymore.

Time to end the evening for sure. Not sure if it was an autocorrect or not but "gun and tonic" sure speaks the truth vs. "gin and tonic". The end result of us drinking is not pretty. Hold your head high and know we support you!

What the others say: just thank the host nicely and leave. Boyfriend can stay, he is not an alcoholic so he cannot really understand and is probably just having a grand old time. Take a cab or ask someone who is leaving early too for a ride.

I'd say he's not much of a friend if he's not respecting your repeated refusal of drinks. Make sure your BF is aware too, but leaving is probably the best option.

That stinks, Zelda!
Can you tell the bartender you are on antibiotics and cannot drink, get a Sprite, and move away from the bar? Ask for reinforcement from boyfriend?
Good luck!

Some great advice here Zelda. Doesn't seem like this party has much to offer you?

glad you survived zelda, just remember, the antibiotics excuse may soon get old.

soon time to 'man up' and put on a stronger defense. does your bf support you in sobriety?
