July 4th Holiday Wee!kender Thread! Movie Quotes Fun!
"I envy people who drink. At least they have something to blame everything on."
~~ Oscar Levant, Actor from the 50's
All my worldly problems summed up with one action. Drinking.
Thats not a true statement! Not by any stretch.
Sobriety teaches me to solve and resolve my problems. Not let them fester as I woozily try to stay one step ahead. Eventually I get run over by it all!
Speaking of actors... Who doesn't love a good movie? These quotes have stuck in my head over the years... I say them when the moment is right... I love it.
"Ditto" ~ Ghost
"You can't save French toast..." ~ Ordinary People
"Toe pick!" ~ The Cutting Edge
"Have you ever seen a grown man naked?" ~ Airplane
"Squirrel!!!! -----> " ~ Up
"I had a farm in Africa." ~ Out of Africa
"ich kann nicht wählen! bitte! ich kann nicht wählen!" ~ Sophie's Choice
"Every time a bell rings and angle gets its wings!" ~ It's a Wonderful Life
Keep your mind off the drink this weekend and share with us a movie or two that inspired, moved or entertained you enough to remember a line or two.
What movies did you grow up on? Made you feel normal? Make you feel not so normal? Scared you to death! Lol
Let's have fun this long holiday weekend. Give you something to think about beside the ice chest of drinks while at that BBQ! Or in Non's case a TS/Hurricane!
I happen to be off Thursday through Sunday so starting the thread was what some said would be helpful!

YaY! Wait. It's here! It's here! Thanks Weasel. Gilmer...way to go with shotgun. Weasel...here is an answer to one of your quotes My very first movie at home ever was "Never Cry Wolf" - all I can remember about it was seeing a man run around naked.
OK. From one of my all time favorite movies (who can guess without googling?):
"Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy" [SPLAT!...chaw juice spat upon the ground for added effect].
First prize for dreamy movie kiss award:
That gorgeous smooch in the brushy wildflowers on the hill overlooking Florence, Italy in the movie 'Room with a View'. No quotes for this except "MWAWWW-wah-waH!". I dreamed of being kissed like that...in the brush, that is. Hah! There is a quote painted on an armoire in the movie (written in the book) that has guided job-consideration for many, many years - "Mistrust all enterprises which require new clothes". Although I do love a good shopping trip...less is always more. The movie soundtrack is first rate cleaning music as well.
Non - great idea. OK friends, welcome to another sober weekend. Let the games begin!

The Philadelphia Story (1940) is one of my favourites for great quotes. Jimmy Stewart comes out of the house hungover one morning and says,
"I'm testing the air. I like it but it doesn't like me."
It's comedic but a good reminder of how horrible hangovers are

My favorite movie of all time is an Italian film from 1997 called Life Is Beautiful. Its star, Roberto Begnini, won the best actor Oscar in 1998, and deservedly so!
My second favorite movie is Babette's Feast, a Danish movie that won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 1988.

Gilmer...I went years! not knowing that Isak Dinesen was the author of Babette's Feast. No wonder it is so great.
Speaking of, Weasel, I can just hear Meryl Streep saying "Ahh-ee had ah farm in AHhh-frica..". Love that

I'm with Croissant. I just remember three lines from a most formative movie that came out when I was in high school:
"It's only a flesh wound!"
"I'll chew you to death!"
"I fart in your general direction!"
(Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

"I want my two dollars!"
"Have you any idea what the street value of this mountain is?!?"
"I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy!"
Hee-he-he. All from the same movie
