An Alcohol-free Hangover?

Morning all.

I've managed to wake up feeling horribly hungover. It must've been those two cans of irn bru I had last night - what do you Scots put in these things?!

I've only experienced an alcohol-free "hangover" once before when I drank way too much cranberry juice. Not enjoying this!

I get them from a hot curry, or overdoing it in the gym late at night before I sleep!

How bizarre! Maybe I'll cut the sugar before bed, hah!

Sugar does it to me too. Or meals high in carbs. At least it is gone quickly once you get moving.

They can be quite weird... I've had dreams where I'm drinking & woken up with a hangover & that awful taste in my mouth!!! I know it's not sugar for me as I don't really have it.. Interesting topic.

I was a little taken aback! Still feeling a little off. Nice to see I'm not the only one!

Considering that cranberry "juice" is not straight juice but a "cocktail" I'd sit down and compare the two's ingredient lists. Could be an allergy.

Prynne I have never heard of "irn bru" so I googled it after reading your OP. Wiki says there are 32 flavouring agents! 32!? Now I feel hungover and I'm drinking lavender tea!

Oh yeah, I can relate. I get food hangovers. Too many carbs will do it to me... especially during the day I'll just get sick feeling and headachey and want to nap.

Timely post...JUST this morning I was feeling hangover-y (is that a word? If not, it should be).

Not AS bad as a bad hangover but just headachy and blah. And I didn't eat or drink anything out of the ordinary last night. Just something that happens I suppose...

Marcher13 - whoops! Maybe this feeling isn't too odd to expect then!

Think I'll stick to green tea tonight!

Yep. Too many carbs in the daytime and I get a headache and want a nap, just like Elle. Too many at night and I wake feeling hungover (without the throwing up, thankfully.)

I think alcoholics have a sugar/carb processing problem. The other thing I've noticed is if I get started on some fresh yeasty bread, I'll eat half a loaf in a few hours. Same with a box of crackers, cereal, or a bag of pretzels. That stuff really affects me - both the compulsion/craving and the after-effects. aack.
