Day 4, wanting alcohol so bad I think I might puke

So I'm here again, the same place as last week when I really started the cravings and messed it all up on day 6. I know the new life I'm starting will be worth it but today the struggle is hard. Changing everything I've known for the past 30 years is so foreign to me. The only thing keeping me together is the memories of my hangovers (as I've gotten older they've got unbearable). I feel like a hot mess, on the verge of tears. Hopefully I can get through this and day 5 will be better.

Hi whyme
The early days are tough for sure....

do you have any support besides us here at SR? I think support can be really helpful.

It's important to keep active and occupied too I think. Sitting there wrestling with a craving is not fun.

do you do any exercise? have any hobbies?

D

Keep hanging in there. Using the memories of the hangovers is good deterant. Fill your spare time with hobbies. Even if it's just watching a film or tv show.

Good luck, SR is a great place for support

Watching tv and eating ice cream is a great kinda night. Something I found I neglected before and now it's become one of my favorite!

Ice cream is a great idea.

And, it is hard to change habits you've had for 30 years. Don't get overwhelmed. Make some small changes in your life and you'll be surprised how things begin to shift.

Gosh the anxiety is so bad tonight. I made dinner and just looking at it puts my stomach in knots. My hearts racing, have hot sweats. I haven't felt this bad sober ever I don't recall. I'm feeling it tonight

Got any chamomile or Sleepy Time tea? Very good for anxiety.

Do you have any decaffinated tea? Try to relax. I googled everything about detoxing so I could understand what my body was going thru. My mind was so anxious I just had to know what I could do to help myself get through the emotional and physical turmoil. It gets better and remember you don't want to go through it again. Hang in there, kiddo!

No tea here. Only cold bottled water that I keep putting on my head. How long does this last?

If you feel really bad don't be afraid or ashamed to go to the ER. It can really help you find peace and safely detox. They will watch out for you. Does anyone know what you are going through that can be with you tonight?

No nobody else is home yet. I'm going to call my friend and see if they will swing by. Believe me if I need to go to the hospital I will. I've been there before. I'm going through this to live.

Ah, yes. Ice cream is always a good idea. My 13 days sober have been filled with a probably excessive amount of it. Like others have been saying, do the tea too if you can. Pamper yourself, take a bath, watch some good TV. Hang in there! I am new to this so I can only offer what I know would help me but you've got this!

Here's a tip that has helped me. If I think about drinking I immediately start eating. Often times we think our body craves alcohol, when if fact our body wants some sugar or carbs. After you give your body the carbs, you will often forget about drinking.

Thanks. I'm feeling much better. I think I was having a panic attack. A cold rag on the forehead and laying down for a bit did the trick.
