How Long before I can sleep

Hi I've drank at least 8 cans for many a year. I've been reducing over the last 6 weeks, down to no alcohol from this Monday, I haven't slept for three days and feel really tired, how long might it take before I sleep, and then for my sleep patterns to settle down?

Thanks

Craig

Hi Craig, I cannot answer you're question direct however I can tell you that I am going through the exact same thing right now and you are not alone going through this. (Night terrors keep me awake)

All I can say for sure is if you pick up a drink again to get some sleep you're 3 days of going through hell will of been wasted and you must stick with it. If I can then you can.

Good luck.

What's keeping you awake. Do you lie there sort of catatonic, eyes open and aware but at peace, or is your mind racing, reliving past events that you would rather forget, and dwelling on worries about the future?

Thanks for your replies, hopefully I may get some sleep tonight, and you too ketting105.

Gottalife, on a night, I'm not anxious at all, and not having racing toughts or anything like that, just can't sleep.

I sometimes read when I can't sleep. If I really want to sleep I read something really heavygoing and it seems to send me off in the end.

My sleep patterns were all over the place when I was newly sober. It may help to try and get into a routine with regular nutricious meals, and perhaps a little exercise thrown in for good measure.

The big thing is not to worry. When you are tired enough, you will sleep.

Hi Craig - welcome

I think most of us experience a little insomnia.

For me it took a week or ten days or so for me to find a normal rhythm of sleep.
For others it can take much longer, or shorter.

If you're concerned about it I hope you'll consider seeing your Dr
