After today, I will have four weeks sober. I went back to my four week mark last Christmas, the post I made on 12/20, and saw the slip beginning. I think I lasted just past the five weeks mark, but the slip began before I actually started drinking again. I cannot pinpoint WHY it is different this time around, only that it is ... much different and much better. I have the tools to deal with any triggers before they turn into full-blown cravings. I have finally accepted the fact that I can NEVER drink like normal people. Moderation is absolutely out of the question. I don't dwell on "forever", I take it one day at a time.
I am more active in AA, actually got a sponsor this time and am looking forward to working the steps with her. It doesn't terrify me like it used to, because I know my life will most certainly change because of it. Not only the alcoholic part of me, but the whole of me. I am actually excited about that. I understand the words serenity and peace; I am willing to let go of things that I can't control; I am already a changed person and I am looking forward to the future in a way that haven't felt for a very long time. I am happy ... for the first time in years, I am truly happy. I am grateful to be at this point ... grateful to everyone at SR and my AA group.
