My brother-in-law passed away today
My brother-in-law died today from cirrhosis of the liver. While it is terribly tragic that he drank himself to death because he could not cope with severe depression, it is comforting to know that he was in a hospital bed surrounded by loved ones who were able to say good-bye. My 16-year-old nephew initially refused to see him after he was hospitalized a week ago, but then decided to go. His dad had a clear moment when he was there and they talked. My nephew said he is glad he went. My 11-year-old niece refused to see him, but I know my sister will look out for her and get her the help she needs to cope with this.Their dad had not lived with them for a while, but she used to be close with him and they had seen him regularly.
He was a great guy and their life seemed so good until he unexpectedly lost his job of 25 years and fell into a deep depression. He went into treatment again and again, but to no avail. I hope he is at peace now.

Soooooo sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and your family. Huggggggggggg. I hope your sister and her kids heal from this tragic loss and may your brother in law rest in peace.
I never realize just how toxic alcohol really is, sadden for your family.

Thank you all very much! I just received an email from sister (my family lives overseas) and she said that they made peace before he died and that now she can remember the good days that had been buried under all the pain over the years. My nephew is happy he got to see his dad and say goodbye. He made peace with him, too. My niece needs time.
