Welcome to SR never.... First post huh?

If you stay here. If you try. If you read, and listen, and learn.... You will look back on this first post with some sort of pride. Cuz you will have changed your life.

My name is Ken... Welcome...

How long are you sober as of this post? Are you sober yet?

Roughly 40 days. I started getting ordered to go to treatment centers and AA in 2009 but now I'm starting to suspect that it's not just my bad luck.

Bad luck has little to do with addiction. Congrats on the 40 days.

Welcome Neverever

The good news is we all have to start from somewhere

Sounds like you're done digging, so now you can start climbing out of the hole you've dug, towards the sun

You'll find support here

Thank you guys for the welcome. I've been fighting sobriety for a long time, trying to make the world bend for it. I'm just beat up. Defeated.

Welcome to SR! Trying to bend the world is tiresome and impossible.

A good man with addictions of his own had found a great solution and wrote about it in a song. It was called the "man in the mirror" if I remember correctly. Beautiful song.

It's about changing ourselves so that the world would change. He forgot the lyrics and died sadly of an overdose. Michael Jackson that was.

We don't have to follow the same path, you can do this. Just gather all your might, follow your plan and stand proud against your beast.

Welcome

When we put our energy in to staying sober instead of how to drink things start to get better

Well I guess it's time you started fighting for it rather than against it.
Sobriety is better...it really and truly is.
Welcome...you are among friends...you really are.

The really wonderful thing about being defeated is the gift of willingness to truly look within at what it'll take to be the greatest we can be. Defeat brings the humility to change.

Welcome. We're here for ya, and WITH ya.

Welcome neverever!

I was like you when I found SR. Defeated and exhausted from years of trying to control my drinking. I was determined to magically turn into a social drinker so it could be fun again. That ship had sailed, and there was nothing to do but embrace the new, sober life I had in front of me. My resentment and anger ended quite awhile ago - I now can't imagine going back to that sick life I once led.

Glad you found us!
