Nearly a year and then..

I'm going for 2 years yay.

I'm not at a year yet, 11 months yesterday but the sober business is for me.

The bonuses
Still gotta husband
Got more money
Finding peace
Getting to know me, sober, it'd been a while.
Enjoying living and remembering what I did with no shame.

The downside

Harsh reality of not running to the bottle for any occasion, commiseration.
lesson in growing up with my prop.
Getting through anxiety without my prop.

If you, my friends, are just starting on this road or like some of us a little way down it or others way up on the horizon. Take stock. Some may pass you on the way, you may trip, stumble, lay down, parts of the road can be very rocky.

Don't give up, get back up, join us in our road of life. Yes, there's cuts and bruises and blisters on the way, they can be mended, soothed, that's what we're here for to get the germolene out.

Keep looking forward, one step then the other before you know it you'll be striding out on this fabulous life we've been given, it's all ours for the taking.

Thanks to all my friends on SR who have helped me, some unbeknowingly, get to where I am today. You're a great bunch of people, I could name you but for fear I would miss a vital name out so thank you all and one.

Love Mags xxxx

Hi LeTheVerte, thanks, I'm excited and scared too, but I've got you all here to fall on in a heap when the going gets tough.

Love it here, it's where I can be honest and get frank and honest replies.

Well done, Mags, it really starts to kick in after 2 years when you forget about longing for the bottle.

I was the same Mags, at first I just wanted to not drink for a year.

People here said what happens after a year, is that not tempting fate when the year passes?

But just like you, I decided I preferred life without drink.

I was 2 years in February.
It will be 3 years in February 2015.

It gets better and better.

I think to myself if I got this all wrong, I just over indulged too much and the blackouts and trouble were no big deal, it does NOT matter.

I am a nicer, more rational, friendly, focused person than I was. I I can be depended on now. I won't be late due to being hungover or cancel as I'm in no state to be out and about.

I could never go back those vile days of blacking out at night instead of falling asleep. Being sick in the shower every morning.

My health is rubbish now funnily enough!
But ........... It's still not as bad as being perpetually hungover.
The worst days I have, which include internal bleeding, fainting, numerous puking episodes are still no where near as bad as the paranoia, self hatred and lack of self respect that happens after a necking a bottle of cheap nasty vodka.

And this makes me laugh so much, before I would avoid the doctors like the plague.
I was convinced I was hiding it.

Now the minute I need an appointment there is no stopping me!
I especially love when they do a general review and I'm asked how many units I drink and how much I smoke.
In the past if they have forgotten to ask, I remind them.
Just so I can say I don't drink, I don't smoke and I don't swear.
It makes me really happy!

Wishing you continued happiness in the 2nd year of your new life xx

Oh wow, thanks to all of you, I know I've got a way to go yet, isn't it in fact, a way of life, but I know for certain I did right by stopping. I got my life back whatever it throws at me.

You'll get there,GetMeOut, I love the saying on your aviator, it is so true. Happy days.
