"AlAnon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. is utilizing Public Service Announcement airtime. The Public Service Announcements give information, i.e. attract people who may need, or know of a friend or relative who could benefit from AlAnon because of someone's drinking. AlAnon contact information is provided so that viewers know how to contact AlAnon by its national toll-free number or its Web site for meeting information. AlAnon's World Service Conference, which is the group conscience of the AlAnon/Alateen fellowship, has authorized its World Service Office to create and distribute Public Service Announcements for TV and radio so that viewers are aware of AlAnon or Alateen. AlAnon is not a secret society. If no information is available to the public or if people only learn about AlAnon by word of mouth, AlAnon would be a secret society. AlAnon's Twelfth Step states, "Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others." Public Service Announcements help AlAnon as an organization message of hope reach out to the public.
