Smile Non-Med "Replacements" for Booze :)

I'm not sure if I have what you would call "an addictive personality" - but when I find something I like or makes me feel like it makes me 'better' looks-wise, confidence-wise, emotion-wise I tend of get rather into it for a while (probably what started this whole drinking mess in the first place...).

SO I was wondering if anyone has weird ways of coping with replacing alcohol in your life. A void-filler if you will.

I've read a lot of the obvious ones...exercise, yoga etc etc. In the past mine have been a little more left field. Including :

Beet root consumption
Fascination with spinach
Polishing my mums silverware every day (that one was odd...)
Creating a big ol Lindsay Lohan collage (when she was in that place.)
Ridiculous amounts of green tea consumption
Facemasks
Coconut water
Croutons
Benedict Cumberbatch (maybe that wasn't related...he's just a dream...)

I think a big thing is purchasing stuff and the sheer volume of consuming - like a sort of retail/ "THIS WILL CHANGE MY LIFE" high when I'm staying sober.

In one period of sobriety I bought 9 Kate Moss Rimmel lipsticks.

I don't even wear lipstick! And one is freeking purple (!/?)

So - any other strangeish replacements you've had/have ?

My wife and I drink ridiculous amounts of seltzer water. It's cheap and harmless, but most of all it satisfies that need to have a drink in my hand and something interesting in my mouth.

I find myself engrossed in Japanese anime shows during periods of abstinence.

Strangely addictive and absorbing, and very weird and off the wall!!

Perhaps not to the extent of nine lipsticks though

Haha! Anime! That's great! Now I think about it - I tend to watch a lot of Father Ted.

Maybe to inspire me not to end up as Father Jack?

Coldfusion I'm totally with you on the seltzer water. Godsend.

Oh and RunnerBean...it was 9 lipsticks....to my shame.

Diet 7-up. I love it. Used to be diet coke but that upset my stomach. Collecting sick animals is another one. I really have to stop that last one...

I train for running races. 5K - 13.1 mile, any of those in that range. I'm not very good.

But as running requires little coordination or skill development, it's pretty much perfect for my needs. I put in the effort on my training in June, I see the performance increases in July. It's a lot like sobriety, in that the day-to-day grind is a lot easier with a positive attitude, and that you get back what you put into it.

Tesco do a Lemon and White Mint Presse-beautiful and crisp. I have a sweet tooth and it just takes the edge off! I've been craving sweets since I stopped drinking!

I love this

Snap with the green tea. And the spinach thing.
At the moment, green smoothies (spinach or kale).
Propagating seedlings (all over the kitchen. They will never make it outside).
Disney films.
Learning Mandarin.
Making burritos.
Buying superfoods in powder form.
New socks. Lots and lots of socks.
Starting hippy tumblr accounts.

That'll do for now I think. Glad I'm not the only one!

I love my Soda stream...I am saving the environment...snork... I like it in a wine glass, it is pretty and sparkling....and my Yonanas machine...I make frozen fruit into ice cream.

I bake bread in a bread machine, I bake cakes too....and give them away...

to complete my obsessiveness I have a fit-bit....it counts everything accurately

You totally got me ImperfectlyMe

I had forgotten about various internet things people have mentioned though! I thought about starting a blog or something- not for anyone specific to read, just as a personal thing- I always lose physical diaries :P
