Unhappy DAY 1... also 1st post on SR

....surely this is rock bottom.....about to lose my licence for the third time, and so have had to resign from a great job, have a once outgoing husband who suffers depression and now has become a recluse, our beautiful home has been taken by the bank and still not sold, now have no income.....and to think we had a thriving successful business for 20 years and have had 5 mortgages over our time .... and to think we have absolutely nothing after all our hard work ..... very hard to fathom when we have raised two children and who are now on their way in successful careers...this should be the time when we should be enjoying ourselves ... and not be at this point....very very frightening..... cant believe we dont even have our own home after all these years.....very dark time.....but I have to somehow turn all this around.....

Welcome Julie,

Almost everyone here has been in a place very similar to where you are, details are different for everyone but we all share so many similarities.

Dee gives great advice. A plan is a really good place to start. As is posting and reading here. Stick around and good luck

Glad you're here Julie! We all need help sometimes. When it seems things can't get any worse sometimes it turns out to be the best place for a miracle to happen!

Wishing you the best!

Hi Julie - welcome to SR! There are great folks here and lots of support.

Things were very dark for me when I stopped drinking not quite two months ago...and things are still hard, but they are getting better. I'm moving forward one day at a time and I hope you can too. My best to you.

Welcome to SR!

You most definitely can change your life and turn this around. It all starts by stopping the madness of drinking. We have all been caught in the trap we thought had no exit. But there is, the door is right there.

Naturally it's a scary thing to open it without knowing what's waiting on the other side. This requires a leap of faith.

Stay close to SR, don't be shy adding as much support as you need. AA is a great option, and there are non 12 steps approach also such as AVRT, smart recovery groups. You can also add therapy if you feel you need it.

Be kind to yourself and your husband in this difficult time

Welcome. Sounds like you may be alcoholic. Have you tried a 12 step program and talking to other people who are struggling with alcohol? It might be the first place to start. I see miracles happen daily in the rooms of AA. Looking to God for answers guidance is essential because you can't do it on your own through your own willpower as you have described. There's an amazing and hopefully life for you. What you described is just material. You still have a life and life you can use to make a difference in your life and others. Maybe it's time for some big changes and move on...Good Luck

Welcome Julie. My heart goes out to you and your situation. A lot of us have faced rough times and thought we'd never make it out of them, but I'm a firm believer that if you ain't dead, you ain't done. You can turn this thing around. So many have hit such low points and thought it was all over, just to find that it was an opening to something they never believed possible. It won't fall into your lap. There will still be work to be done - lots of work - but you can do it. Stick around. There is lots of sympathy, empathy, and support to be found here. Wishing you all the best.
