Difficult Day

Hitting brick walls with school, woke up depressed and ashamed of my actions during my last binge.

It's day five and I REALLY want to pick up a bottle of wine.

We both know a bottle of wine isn't going to help, in fact it'll only multiply those feelings and you'll feel even worse tomorrow.

Instead, Great job on posting and reaching out for support, we've got your back!!

DO NOT pick up a bottle of wine.

As a friend, if I were there next to you I would:

Look at you squarely and let you know that I totally understand and suggest that you take deep breaths and focus on the amazing you inside.

Bring you People, US, & In Touch magazines so you could get caught up on your pop culture social life.

Make you a nice cheese sandwich accompanied by carrot sticks and fizzy water.

Get your running shoes out of the closet and go on a nice walk talking about 'good stuff' so you could let some good thoughts crowd out the bad.

Tell you that this moment will pass and that being hard on yourself will not make it pass faster.

Ask you about your upcoming days and brainstorm how to keep your mind and body busy with good things.

Leave you with a 12-pack of fizzy coconut water for you to try and get back to me with what you think (inside joke )

**Be gentle with yourself, Alphabet. Easier said than done, we know, but trying is a good start.

I think I'm going to spend some time at the gym instead. Then make dinner. Maybe go to a meeting.

And you're right, I need to be nicer to myself. I have a lot going for me despite my transgressions. I consider myself very fortunate for that. Still, I get told all too often by my dude that he's never met anyone who's more hard on themselves. I'm inclined to believe him. Trying to work on that, as well.

Thank you for the replies <3

((((Alphabet))))); early sobriety is so fragile.

Stick with us; we'll get stronger together.

Alpha, no one can change the past and we have all done things we regret, forgive yourself and keep moving forward. What's important is the present and you should feel proud of the actions you are taking to get sober. Congrats on day five!

Alpha, stay strong! You don't want to start over again with Day 1, which totally sucks.
