500 days to change the world

...or at least my view of it

I guess it's because my head is held so much higher that I'm seeing everything around me as if for the first time. No longer filtered through a cloud of wine, colours are more vivid, fragrences more uplifting and breezes gentler and more caressing.

And I see myself differently, too. I'm proud of who I am and I feel worthy of this happiness. I'm the person I've wanted to be, but despaired of nearly all my life. I'm 54 and I feel reborn.

Sobriety is so much more than not drinking. It's turning your face to the sun.

Brilliant. I had a similar experience- a feeling of re-birth wheres before I only anticipate a tragic demise without the prospect of reprieve for myself

Great observation there - I immediately nodded my head at this. While drinking heavily, I also imagined a tragic demise for myself. I felt like I was climbing to the top of a rollercoaster, with an inevitable and unavoidable drop on the horizon. Now I prefer the smooth sailing on the kiddie-coaster. Sure, there are little ups-and-downs, but it's not scary and the consequences of system failure aren't very dangerous!

Congrats on 500 days Headlump, thanks for sharing the positive vibes!

Yes, but not necessarily "higher", I think. Maybe more realistic.

Wonderful on your sober time and on your insights, keep it coming!
