drinking to much

I'm retired an active for a 72 yr old woman but I am drinking to much. People say just stop but that doesn't work. How do I stop this habit before I get into trouble. My weight is skyrocketing even through I work out and try to watch my diet. I am going to be a fat od lady who cannot move.

I just wish people understood the addicts mind, people who say "just quit" obviously have no concept of addiction, but we are strong enough to quit if we truly want too, even if it means cutting back, but as we get older our natural metabolism slows down which sadly for us makes it more difficult to shed weight too easily.

Wishing you well.

Welcome to SR.

I found stopping to be easier when I was starting something else. What can you do instead of drinking?

Welcome to the Forum!! you'll find loads of support here!!

It's gonna take a plan and a change of lifestyle, one that doesn't facilitate the drinking of alcohol anymore, new activities, realising the triggers that make you want to drink and by putting all that together with some support it can be done!!

Hi and welcome goodturn26

Honestly for me the only way I got rid of my alcohol problem was to not drink it at all...it was tough to do but you'll find a load of support encouragement and understanding here to help

check out our Class of June support thread

& our 24 hour Recovery Connections thread - it's a good way to make a renewed daily commitment to sobriety and recovery

Welcome goodturn! I'm so glad you found us - it'll really helps to not be alone with this.

'Just stop' - spoken like a person who has no idea what alcoholism is, as stoogy mentioned. You're among friends who understand. I hope you'll keep posting.

Welcome! I'm glad you found us and joined the family. Depending on how much you've been drinking, you may want to consult your doctor about medical help in getting safely and comfortably thru detox.
