Alateen Weekend!!!

My seventeen year old daughter is away at an Alateen Conference this weekend. She's been going to Alanon for a few years, but this will be her first time together with other Alateen kids. She's looking forward to it, but has no idea what they have planned, or what it will be like. I was yammering to her in the car on the ride up, about all the variety of possibilities. "Well they could do this....or they could do that... Maybe it'll be like this...But it'll probably be like that...Then again the might do such and such.... When she stops me mid sentence, and in a very dry tone says "Mom, just stop with the expectations. Just stop. I have learned in life that it's better to have no expectations about these sorts of things"

Whaaaaaaaaa????????

I guess that's a good thing???

I'd be more concerned with her state of ennui if it weren't for two things:
1) My yammering can sometimes even irritate me.
2) She almost always has a good time at these sorts of events.

Anyway...Prayers and positive thoughts are always welcome for the kids and adults there, that they have a great weekend.

Thanks

LOL SK. Sounds like a great kid. Hope she has a great time.
But now to the important part- how are YOU going to enjoy this free time?

Prayers for open minds and hearts, guidance and growth. She sounds a bit like my older kids when I get to talking too much. Listening and letting there be silence are learned skills that I'm still in the early stages of learning. The gift of gab with meaningless filler is something I learned from my mom and my aunts. One of my worst habits is asking two questions or more in sequence instead of one question and letting them reply.

The funny thing is, I'm getting better about this with our youngest son but I instantly revert when I'm talking with the older ones.

Well, to answer you question ladyscribbler, I've got a few things on my To Do list that I plan on getting to, and I'll hopefully get together with some friends, and the rest of the time I'll spend yammering at my cat. (At least he appreciates me.)

Keepingthefaith, My mother always taught me that a polite person asks plenty of questions during a conversation, but I don't remember her ever saying we had to let them reply. So I think you're ok.
